The Army Public Affairs Association is pleased to announce the recipients of the Donald Nathan Carr Memorial Scholarship for Public Affairs Excellence for the inaugural Class of 2024.

Retired Sgt. Maj. Jose Velazquez has been selected as the 2024 Joe Galloway Lifetime Achievement Award recipient.

Staff Sgt. Micah V. Merrill has been selected as the 2024 Master Sgt. Marcia J. Triggs Award of Excellence recipient.

The Army Public Affairs Association (APAA) is proud to announce the creation of the Donald Nathan Carr Memorial Scholarship for Public Affairs Excellence. Named to honor of one of the Army’s longest serving and most recognized public affairs professionals who passed away in 2019, this scholarship will be awarded as several scholarships to up to five applicants annually.

Retired Colonel Doug Coffee has been selected as the 2023 Joe Galloway Lifetime Achievement Award Recipient

Master Sergeant Ashley K. Huiras has been selected as the 2023 Master Sgt. Marcia J. Triggs Award of Excellence Recipient.

The Army Public Affairs Association is proud to announce Jack E. Gordon has been named the 2022 recipient of the Joe Galloway Lifetime Achievement Award in recognition of his service to Army Public Affairs, both as a Soldier and a Department of the Army Civilian. Mr. Gordon passed away Feb. 7, 2022, at his home overlooking the waters of the Ohio River, a place he truly loved.

“This is a first time posthumous award for us and we are very happy to be able to honor this lifelong Army Public Affairs professional,” said John Harlow, president of the Army Public Affairs Association. “Jack Gordon was a dedicated, quiet professional who served selflessly for decades, leaving a legacy of contribution to the professional that will endure for generations.”

The Joe Galloway award is an annual award intended to recognize a lifetime of sustained support to the U.S. Army and to the Army public affairs community, through extraordinary contributions to the mission and profession of public affairs.

Larry Icenogle has been named the 2019 recipient of the Joe Galloway Lifetime Achievement Award in recognition of his service to Army Public Affairs both in uniform and as a Department of the Army Civilian.

The Army Public Affairs Association is pleased to recognize Donald N. Carr as the 2018 recipient of the Joe Galloway Lifetime Achievement Award in recognition of his 42 years of service to Army Public Affairs both in uniform and as a Department of the Army Civilian.

The Army Public Affairs Association is proud to announce Army Staff Sgt. Stephen L. Dornbos is the 2022 recipient of the Master Sgt. Marcia J. Triggs Award for Excellence. Dornbos serves as the Noncommissioned Officer-in-Charge of the 50th Mobile Public Affairs Detachment, Fort Stewart, Georgia. The MSG Marcia J. Triggs Award for Excellence is an annual recognition for an Army noncommissioned officer in grades E-6 through E-8 who has demonstrated outstanding and sustained excellence in leadership.

The Army Public Affairs Association is proud to announce Army Master Sgt. Charles E. (Chuck) Burden is the 2021 recipient of the Master Sgt. Marcia Triggs Award for Excellence. Burden is the noncommissioned officer in charge of the Joint Staff Public Affairs Office at the Pentagon. The Triggs Award is an annual recognition for an Army noncommissioned officer in grades E-6 through E-8 who has demonstrated outstanding and sustained excellence in leadership.

The Army Public Affairs Association is proud to announce Army Sgt. 1st Class Heather Denby is the 2020 recipient of the Master Sgt. Marcia Triggs Award for Excellence. Denby is the noncommissioned officer in charge of the 28th Public Affairs Detachment, in Hawaii. The Triggs Award is an annual recognition for an Army noncommissioned officer in grades E-6 through E-8 who has demonstrated outstanding and sustained excellence in leadership.
