Disinformation
Why we like it

Disinformation and you    They provoke you with anger because fear-filled people are easier to manipulate. The tricks, tools and tactics used to influence you and your loved ones―along with the history of propaganda―explained and explored.

We live in an age of disinformation, misinformation, and outright lies. The modern world blasts us with information, talking points, spin, advertising, and attempts to persuade. But what are we to believe and whom should we trust?

Disinformation and you    This is a sobering book. There’s been much written about the KGB since the Soviet Union’s fall opened many of its files. Pacepa focuses on one aspect of it: Far more KGB energy went into “disinformation” than traditional espionage. Many ideas, misconceptions and flat-out lies taking hold since World War II were secretly generated by the KGB.

You are still being lied to    An unprecedented group of researchers including Howard Zinn, Noam Chomsky, Howard Bloom, Sydney Schanberg, Michael Parenti, Riane Eisler, Jim Marrs, and many, many others--investigative reporters, political dissidents, academics, media watchdogs, scientistphilosophers, social critics, and rogue scholars--paints a picture of a world where crucial stories are ignored or actively suppressed and the official version of events has more holes in it than Swiss cheese. A world where real dangers are downplayed and nonexistent dangers are trumpeted. In short, a world where you are being lied to.

un-spun    unSpun is the secret decoder ring for the twenty-first-century world of disinformation. Written by Brooks Jackson and Kathleen Hall Jamieson, the founders of the acclaimed website FactCheck.org,unSpun reveals the secrets of separating facts from disinformation, such as:

• the warning signs of spin
• common tricks used to deceive the public
• how to find trustworthy and objective sources of information
