Association Awards

The Army Public Affairs Association is proud to sponsor or manage multiple awards for the Public Affairs profession. These include annual awards like the Galloway Lifetime Achievement Award and awards available at any time of the year like the Military Orders of Saint Gabriel.

Learn more about our awards programs and review our Awards Program SOP  or our Honaker VI Leadership Award SOP for complete information on how to submit.

Joe Galloway Lifetime Achievement Award

The Joe Galloway Lifetime Achievement Award is an annual award intended to recognize a lifetime of sustained support to the U.S. Army – generally – and to the Army public affairs community – specifically – through extraordinary contributions to the practice and profession of public relations.

Master Sgt. Marcia J. Triggs Award

The Master Sgt. Marcia J. Triggs award honors Noncommissioned Officer service to the Army Public Affairs community over a period of at least five years or more. The ideal candidate is one who made significant contributions to improving the professionalism of the public affairs career field. The candidate can come from the Active, Guard or Reserve components.

Col. Errol K. 'Buck' Honaker' Visual Information Leadership Award

The Col. Errol K. 'Buck' Honaker Visual Information Leadership Award recognizes extraordinary achievement by individuals who have distinguished themselves with outstanding service as a Visual Information leader over a minimum of 10 years in the Army VI career field. Honaker Award recipients have made indelible, enduring, and impactful contributions to the VI career field, mission and community of practice for the Army and in some cases the Department of Defense. The Honaker Award, established in 2024, ensures the lasting contributions of exceptional professionals in visual information are honored by the Army Public Affairs Association for their enduring impact on the Army and the nation it serves.

Military Order of Saint Gabriel

The Army Public Affairs Association, in collaboration with then-OCPA, designed, approved and developed the Military Order of Saint Gabriel program to recognize those individuals who have made significant contributions to the U.S. Army Public Affairs community and practice.

SCHOLARSHIPS

Donald Nathan Carr Memorial Scholarship for Public Affairs Excellence

The Army Public Affairs Association (APAA) awards five (5) scholarships at $500 each to members of the Army Public Affairs and Visual Information community to assist with or cover career-enhancing professional development education or training. Recipients must join the association for at least one year, and be a current Army public affairs or visual information practitioner. The APAA can think of no better way to honor Don Carr than to do what he did for a lifetime: seize every opportunity to help those around him to be exceptional and effective – to be all that they can be. The association hopes this scholarship in his name will add to his legacy of passion for the United States Army and the people who tell its story." Also, the recipients list needs to come over from the old site, same format as Galloway, Triggs and Honaker:

Recipients

  • 2025 - Capt. Alexandra Curtis, Commander of the 88th Army Band, Rhode Island National Guard
  • 2024 – SFC Monik Phan, Operations Noncommissioned Officer in Charge, 24th Theater Public Affairs Support Element, Fort Bliss, Texas
Ms. Aspen Turnage, Automation Clerk, Public Affairs Office, Little Rock District, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers
