The Chief of Army Public Affairs officially designated Saint Gabriel as the patron saint of Army Public Affairs in 2014. The Army Public Affairs Association, in collaboration with OCPA, designed, approved and developed the Military Order of Saint Gabriel program to recognize those individuals who have made significant contributions to the U.S. Army Public Affairs community and practice. The Order of Saint Gabriel was established with two levels:
ANCIENT ORDER
HONORABLE ORDER
Those awarded the Order of Saint Gabriel (both levels) receive a medallion attached to a gold-ribbed teal ribbon and a certificate signifying membership in an elite community of professional communicators.
The medallion will be worn with the Public Affairs crest against the chest and the bust of Saint Gabriel facing out and in view. The Order of Saint Gabriel is authorized for wear at PA and non PA functions such as dinings-in and dinings-out. Commanders O-6 and above may designate other occasions for wear as appropriate.
